| So you want to have a block party |
| This is what you do |
- Get a partner to help with the planning and work
- Pick a data and a rain date (usually the next day)
- Five weeks prior to the party, send a letter to the Chief of Police:
Chief Robert Carboy
Fanwood Police Department
75 N. Martine Ave
Fanwood, NJ 07023
The letter should state the date and rain date of the party, the street(s) you would like closed to traffic and the time the party is to be held. A Sample Letter is provided for you to use as an example.
- Determine how much of the meal will be purchased and what the guests will provide.
- Calculate the approximate cost of the paper products, drinks and food to be purchased.
- Based upon items 4 and 5, determine the price per adult and per child.
- Make a flyer stating the date of the party, the cost per person, an RSVP number and date and the due date money is to be paid by. You will want to have all the money before you start shopping.
- Distribute flyers to every family on the block.
- As people respond, if food is to be provided by the guests, assign the food dish you would like them to provide.
- Plan games for the children and plan games for the adults who want to participate too!
- When setting up the barricades, follow the instruction in the letter you will receive from the Police.
- Before everyone goes home, get two volunteers for next year's party.
- And above all have fun!
